2019-04-30 [My diary]

Japanese era name is changed from "Heisei" to "Reiwa" tomorrow. Today is final day of "Heisei".
Actually, I have less interest about era name change because I use western calendar year usually.

I cooked curry rice for dinner. Curry is kinds of standard and popular dish in Japan.
My brother said when he came home "Oh, I want to eat curry because "Heisei" is finished".
I don't have intention that curry is last dish of "Heisei". But, curry has some meaning for him. I don't know his interest and I don't have any care. But, he joyed. That's good.

I can, I do and I did. But, so what? [My diary]

Last year, I had bad experience. Project manager frequently interrupted my word and denied my word. He sometimes said "Shut up. Do not speak." when I tried to help meeting speaker who struggled to Project manager's word. I finally became discouraged according to his rude attitude and I asked my boss about my left from his project.

As result of discussion with boss, I continued joining his project. My boss said, "You are necessary person in this project. Project manger thinks so also. He agreed to my word."
I know my boss is trusted person. But I didn't and don't agree about opinion about project manager.

But, the title of this article doesn't mean this disagreeable experience.

Recently, I had feedback meeting with my boss about my last year's work. Actually, my result is bad. I understand my boss rated my score basically my discouraged work style had bad effect to team and project. My boss said, "I know you can and do best work. So, you should do. OK?".
"OK." I answered.

Answer means "I swear". I shall do. Of course.
But, even though I can, my work skill didn't help me from project manager's rude attitude and won't help me.
So, I feel "I can. I did. I do. So, what? I just keep suffering."
I cannot control project manager's rude attitude. So, he keeps rude attitude when I tell my opinion about my work.

I sometimes join meeting with english speakers.
Usually, I can't speak good english and I fail to join discussion. English speakers often can't get my point.

I can get good score on english test. But, unfortunately, I can't use my english skill well.

Some days ago, I found that I speak less work than other Japanese person. So, my word misses some important explanation.
I think I should explain my intension carefully.

About 5 years ago, I worked in software development project as developer. Unfortunately, and as common case, our project was delayed and needed to improve our development process, style and project organization.

We knew a senior engineer would become sub project manager as project leader's informal decision. Developers including me convinsed this informal decision was reasonable because he helped us always and we knew he has enough career and skill.
This informal decision had one point to be considered. This was one management staff. This staff was in higher rank than the senior engineer. If the senior engineer would become sub project leader, the staff should work according to the senior engineer's direction. This meant, the senior engineer would be in higher rank than the management staff in our project internally in opposite to company organization.
Developers including me also thought this was reasonable becasue he couldn't enough work without other's direction.

Actually, formal decision was different from informal decision. The management staff, not the senior engineer, was ordered as sub project leader. This order came from more upper person then project leader. The upper person thought that it was more important that he kept rank order than our project improvement. And he thouhght the management staff would improve his skill and work if he had chance.
I remember that the senior engineer criticized to the upper person. "No way! He just sits on the desk and do noghing!" But, the upper person didn't change the formal decision.

As result, the sub project learder, former management staff, left project. He didn't and coudn't carry out any work as sub project leader, I say, as expected. Senior engineer and all devlopers felt disappointed about his work as sub project leader. The sub project leader felt disappointed and did nothing less than as management staff.

I wonder the upper person wouldn't forecast this result. We should have focused project improvement at that time. But, his decision wasn't for project improvement. And his decision didn't archive his expected result.

I remember that some person who didn't have technical and business skill in our business.
Leader at that time recommended that he and I shared some of my work. But, I refused because he didn't have enough skill. I saw leader worked with him 2 hours during his 4 hours work. I thought if Leader or I would do that work, we just takes 2 hours by ourselves.
I said to Leader "he needs 2 hours to do 1 hour task. And he needs support half of time that he carries out the task. That has no sense to me because I have to use same time to support him. He used same amount of my work time. That's no meaning for me". "Understood" leader said.

The reason why I remember him is that I saw similar situation recently. One trained engineer worked together with one engineer which doesn't have enough skill for many time to support the engineer without enough skill.
I suppose that if the trained engineer did the work he needs less time. And the engineer without enough skill doesn't take note about work even though he should learn the work and do by himself.
If the engineer without skill could carry out the task by himself, the many time the trained engineer used is not wasted. But, I think that they both are satisified about work together itself.

I'm not sure whether my feeling is right. In my point of view, the trained engineer should teach more easier work to the engineer without enough skill. But, nobody knows the engineer without enough skill can learn work.

Mr.K is one of my colleague. I feel he doesn't like me. When I ask him something, he basically rejects my asking which he accepts when my other colleague asks same kind of asking.

Fortunately or unfortunately, he is some kind of cunning person. So, when he rejects my asking, he says certain twisted reason. But, he doesn't say such kind of reason to other person. So, the reason he says isn't actual reason he rejects my asking.

Some days before, I tried review my documents in team meeting. Mr.K also joined. Actually my document was poor. So, review was failed. Mr.K usually enjoys reviewer position because he can attack me and other weak person officially.
In the meeting, a colleague explained situation and information to try helping me. Unfortunately, information he explained was the information others doesn't know.
"Hey, you two don't talk only each other. You two ignore us." Mr.K said.
His word made me laugh inwardly.

Mr.K sometimes ignores me. He doesn't inform me about my work and just talk with other person.
He enjoy ignoring me but he said he dislike to be ignored.

Of course the colleague who tried helping me didin't intended to ignore Mr.K and others. It was enough that Mr. K just would say only "We don't know your explained information." But, he tried injuring me and the colleague in order to show that he attacks the person who tries to help me.

It seems to me that he thinks he is important person and I'm in lower ranking. He may think I should have respect him.
But, I feel he is Munchkin.

Change my smart phone [My diary]

I changed my smart phone because old one has 2 problems. One problem is that old one sometimes became no sound. Other is connector for energy charge was crooked and has difficulty to charge energy.

Fortunately, I join support contract that I can change my smart phone to same type new phone. So, I used this contract's right.

All most my data is stored in cloud. So, I easilyt to restore my data to my new phone.
I think that I'm happy that I can use cloud.

I don't have enough English skill because I have less oppotunity to speak English. This means I don't have less experience that I try to say my opinion in English and to describe my thought in English.

2 days before, I joined a meeting with business partner on abroad with other Japanese colleague. Honestley speaking, main speaker in the meeting in Japan side spoke english not fluently. But, he tried to describe his opinion honestly. All participants shared and completed meeting agenda item finally.

I thought his effort and his will make him not give up.
I want to keep effort like him.

Advise about reporting [My diary]

Usually, new employee in Japan receive employee training. I also received some new employee's training.
When I was new employee just after I graduated from an university, I belonged to General Coordination division during training.

I sometime remember manager's word at that time.
She said:
"When I was in my first year after graduation university, my boss always asked what I did in that day when I was leaving office. I felt bad about his asking. So, I reported my work daily before he tried to ask question. You may also have experience and feeling like this. So, I suggest that you report your work voluntarily."

I agree to her word. So, I try to report my work before someone checks and ask my work.
Of course, sometimes I forgot and/or postpone reporting. I remember her word in that case.

2018-12-02 [My diary]

Recently, one of my colleagues sometimes asks me to tell how I think his idea about work.
In my point of view, his idea is reasonable and I say so.
I think that he is worried about his idea because he may think his experience isn't enough for his work. So, he may want to get agreement from other colleagues, I think.

I think he may feel I'm better person to get opinion than his boss or his senior technical leader because his boss or his senior technical leader tends to give some direction and/or order to him even though he has some idea and will about process of his work. They may sometimes decrease his motivation because they don't hear his overall thought and deny his opinion.
I think my colleague just wants to get agreement and approval. When he gets agreement and approval, He feels relief even though his boss or his technical leader doesn't agree to him after he asked my opinion and I said agreement to him.
